April 16, 2012 - Town of Slave Lake postpones Multi-Rec Centre Opening

On April 18, 2012 the Town of Slave Lake planned to celebrate the opening of the new Multi Rec Center with the residents of the region. This event was to mark the completion of a 2-year renovation project of the Arctic Ice Centre and the addition of a multi purpose fieldhouse to the community.

Unfortunately the Fire Alarm system, scheduled for completion on April 12, 2012 has been delayed and is required for public occupancy of a building. Safety of users and facility staff is a high priority for the Town of Slave Lake. As a result of the delay in fire alarm verification the Grand Opening event scheduled for April 18, 2012 will be delayed until the facility is able to properly host the event.

The trade show event scheduled for April 13th and 14th is able to proceed with the employment of a manned “fire watch” system. “Fire watch” is a temporary solution required to permit safe public occupancy of the building.

The Town of Slave Lake looks forward to celebrating the opening of the Multi Rec Centre with the community in the very near future and sharing the long-term health benefits of the facility with residents for many years.

For further information, please direct your calls to Karl Hill, Director of Community Services at 780-849-8017.

April 12, 2012 - Burning Notice
On Monday nights from now until the end of May, firefighters from the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Service and SRD will be burning areas of dry grass in and around the community of Slave Lake.
Hazard reduction burning removes the dangerous build up of dry grass that is prominent around many communities in the spring.
Fire plays an important role in maintaining healthy grassland ecosystems. Prescribed fire recycles nutrients, helps plants reproduce, and encourages a wide variety of new habitat for several animals in the area.
Applying fire in a controlled manner helps maintain that healthy balance while protecting the safety of nearby developments.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Slave Lake Fire Chief at 780-849-4110
